| Titled Aahrt Deck Oh!, this piece is 15"x18". It was just about the most complicated artwork I've done. There are 5 types of metals plus some fake gold leaf that coats the ornaments at the top and bottom. The circular, slotted background with the orange border(made of painted Coke cardboard) was once the bottom of a baby crib. The gold-colored ornamentation was a piece of melamine pressed board I found in a dumpster up the street from last falls ArtWalk. The black backing was a broken up entertainment center I found out in the country. |
Lil' Watt is the smaller of several pieces that are being done on commission from a local electric company. The twice-as-large, companion piece will be identical in content to Lil' and is called Big Watt. Lil' is 8"x9" and is made from sheet steel salvaged from a wrecked truck door. Although it may not be apparent from the picture, the little yellow triangles around the periphery of the bulb angle up at about 30 degrees and give the piece a little more depth. April 17,2007 |
Michele Spry, one of the co-owners of Midway Electric, Inc., is shown with Big and Lil' Watt installed in their corporate reception room. April 27,2007 |

The tag beneath the pieces was made from a piece of melamine laminated hardboard that was saved from the landfill. |
| Michele is about 13"x18" and is made from metal hangers and scrap sheet metal. A caricature, drawn by a local caricaturist, was used as the pattern. The 'real' Michele is shown above. |
| Called Just Scraps(from Some Other Sculpture Pieces) is 13"x16". As the name suggests, the parts came from left over scraps from the bulb pieces shown above and others. The color scheme is Miro' based. The profile in the work I've used before in several art deco wire sculptures. |
| 1st Edition is 9"x27" & is made from scrap particle board, plywood and polished steel scrap. The paint scheme, like the above, is Miro' based. Some may recognize this piece as, somewhat, Mondrian influenced. |
| Frida(Fading) is 13"x17" and is made from scrap, galvanized ducting. The tan-like background was once the bottom of a drawer I found at the dump. |
Climbing the Ladder is a metaphorical piece about 17" tall. The metal parts are crafted from hanger wire, yard sign wire and sheet metal of unknown ancestry. Some may recognize the Alexander Calder influence. Can you identify the several metaphors in this sculpture? I'm curious........ this image of the Ladder is Googled(images) at least 3 times a week by people from all over the place....If you got here from Google Images could you, please, take the time to drop me a note about why this thing is so interesting... llhote@mchsi.com |
| This is Brandon & is about the same size as the Michele shown above. The caricature was drawn from a picture of Michele's husband by a local caricature artist. This piece is made from hanger wire, yard sign wire and microwave oven sheet steel. |
