A caricature of Norman Mailer is about 12"x16." The piece is a new venture, for me, into layering materials on top of each other and attaching with adhesive. The background is a decoupage of some of Mailer's material. The hair and eyebrows are scorched, galvanized sheet metal and the yellow metal is brass sheet that once was a door kick plate. The other pieces are portions of a yard sign painted with brush and spray. The model for this piece appeared in a recent Wall St. Journal. Needless to say, but, Mr. Mailer might not appreciate this distorted image of himself...
This piece started out to be a Melinda Gates portrait but it turned into a Sarah Hill. It doesn't look like Melinda but it does resemble(click on following for a bio of Sarah) Sarah a local television anchor. The hair is a little long for Sarah but she isn't going to get a haircut at this point in time. The sculpture is 12"x14" and is made from hanger wire, scrap sheet metal and cardboard. The necklace is part of one I found in a drawer around here someplace.
Willy is about 9"x14". The figure is cut from scrap sheet metal and the 'city' in the background is a piece of scorched, galvanized ducting that has had some 'sculpting' done(e.g. windows in buildings). Originally, I had intended the figure and background to be part of the Arthur Miller piece I did over a year ago . The text portion of the piece was created using Adobe Illustrator and is decoupaged to the particle board backing.. a little yellow tint was wiped on the surface to simulate some aging.

March 2007

Barak Obama is 12"x21". He is the U.S. Senator from Illinois and is aspiring to be president....but, I believe, it will be a upHill(ary) battle. His hair is part of an abrasive sanding pad. Hanger wire and microwave oven sheet metal were used for the figure. ...another rendering of a Ken Fallin drawing. The blue part of the aura is a little dark....
Nude #4 is 9"x20" and is made from hanger wire. The little wrist bouquet was once an earring I got along with a whole bag of junk jewelry. The paint for this piece was found in full gallon containers next to a dumpster I frequent. The model for Nude #4 was an ad for a laser hair removal clinic. The woman had on a bikini-like thing so I had to 'improvise' in order to render a nude figure.
