These trays are made from salvaged pine. No attempt was made to correct the wood defects. The trays are approximately 15" by 21"(just convenient lengths). The stain is a water based dye called Antique Pine(just a little too red for my taste..but what the....I left it.) A coat or two of satin poly was applied as a topcoat. The bottoms are OSB or wafer board that was on its way to the dump. Flat black latex was applied to the bottoms.
A groove(dado cut)was cut on the inside of each side to accomodate the bottom. This OSB is nominally 1/4" but the grooves were cut slightly larger because the stuff was not uniform thickness. I probably should have painted the bottom for esthetic reasons.
The box joints are half inch. The wood was originally 1 X 6(really more like 3/4 and 5.5)and the boxjoints were cut on the whole 6" width. Handles were then cut using a bandsaw and a scroll saw then the straight sides were cut to match. Wood defects are apparent.
I attended the Folk Arts Fair in St. Charles , Il and one of the vendors was selling calendars(Lane) and frames. I decided to make up some frames for Xmas Gifts. The frame on the left is a prototype. ...a little distortion but the frame sides are parallel.
I made several and finished them all a little different. The bottom, inside edge of the frame has a groove for a pencil.
I made this pink ironing board for my granddaughter for birthday. It folds flat. The rest of her bedroom is mostly pink. The wood is scrap plywood and pine.
