Extension Table Router Table

Originally, I used my router in a Woodhaven table but found the table and fence to be just a little too flimsey.  I also found that the Porter Cable plunge router I was using in the table to be unsatisfactory due to its poor on/off switch and its very difficult depth changing system.  When I built my extension table router table I bought a high end Porter Cable fixed base router and I have been very pleased with the results.

The router fence sits astride the Biesmeyer fence.  The wood is salvaged hardwood.  I cut kerfs every half inch in the fence to reduce friction.  The opening in the fence is a little large so I attach plywood pieces to the face of the fence that act as zero clearance. Backside of fence showing attachment clamp Underside of table.  I had to remove the original crossmember supports and installed my own.  I was rather sloppy with the urethane glue.  The blue box is part of a wiring system using a Delta contractors saw switch that enables me to turn on the router and vacuum system at the same time. Picture shows how I hollowed out the fence for dust collection.  Not very elegant but it works.
This shows a microadjust jig made by Tahoe Tools.  It really eliminates much of the frustration with small changes in the table saw fence. Once adjustments are made the device is removed in less than a minute.
