March 2006 Projects

This lady[ she looks like Rita Hayworth] was rendered in sheet steel, that was once a microwave oven, using a postage stamp size graphic from a Turner Classics ad the local cable company sent. The pieces of concrete are from a building rehab and were cut-outs from a concrete floor. The metal pieces are attached with epoxy. The piece graces the corner of my front yard.

This piece is to serve as a model for a much larger sunburst using about 100 rays. The rays are made from metal hangers and sections of metal strapping. Black paint was then sprayed on the work. It is about 17" in diameter.
This wall sculpture is made from square pieces of a trashed counter top. The squares have a beveled edge and are shimmed at varying depths. It is my plan to put other objects in some other squares like the section to the top left(which happens to be a screen from the door of a junk microwave oven.). The piece is about 27" across the diagonal. The picture was a little difficult to pose and demonstrate the different depths. I made this thing months ago but just lately painted in the black sides that were necessary.
This wire sketch was rendered in hanger wire from a sketch I acquired(i.e. stole) from the website of a European designer. The piece is about 16" tall and may need a little fine tuning before I permanently attach it to it's frame. The red shoe tips were cut from some hardware box I found around the workbench somewhere.
I built this artist easel the last week in March. If you want the complete description of it's construction, click on this sentence.
