See "About & Blog" the Aug 27th entry for info about how I made the pattern for Woman in the Red Coat.I opted not to include all the hair that was a major part of the original photograph ..... now one might feel the woman resembles the female lead, Jane Curtin as Prymatt Conehead in that Conehead movie.. Anyhows, the piece is 8"x18" and is made from hanger wire for the outline. The eyes were once part of the metal outer door skin on a Chevy Silverado(I picked up the door from a local body shop). The red coat had a former life as a naugehyde purse I found in a dumpster behind a thrift store.

September and October were not all that productive. Getting ready for the show at the Ragtag Gallery and some lawn care responsibilities took time away from my creativity.

I used a piece of kraft paper when I sprayed some items. After I sprayed the lips I noticed the patterns on the paper were interesting...somewhat like some of the stuff David Smith(one of my favorite artists) had done. The paper is held to the back board by an antique square head nail. The piece is about 20" tall.
This sculpture is named Abu-Ghraib and is an obvious political statement. The simulated razer wire is made from some heavy strapping I picked up at Home Depot and is VERY difficult to drill. The work is about 17" tall and held to the backing by two more of those antique nails. After a day or so I added the picture to the piece shown on the right.
This is Bobette Starr. She's from the Memphis area. The furry stuff is cut from a discarded mink coat. The metal 'hair' is some hvac ducting. Her dress is made from leather that was part of a purse I found in a dumpster. Presently, the stars & tails are made from a metallic-painted Coke case but eventually they will be polished steel ... The sculpture is about 18"x24" . You might ask, "where is her nose?"... Who knows....
I was looking out the window at my health club a couple weeks ago and noticed some interesting patterns made by the curved twigs that had fallen from the tree just outside the window...a cotton wood??... I came back later, gathered up a bundle of the curvey twigs and assembled this piece on my plaster photo drop... title: "who is it?" , 38" tall.
